Hemp-seed I set
The practice of sowing hempseed on Allhallows Even is often alluded to by earlier writers, and Gay, in his 'Pastorals,' quotes part of the following lines as used on that occasion.
“Hemp-seed I set,
Hemp-seed I sow,
The young man that I love,
Come after me and mow!”
